Start saying goodbye to the trees and shrubs, they’ll soon be covered in snow! It’s looking cold outside and even colder up the top. The forecast has blessed us with an even better prediction than yesterday; a solid 43cm for tomorrow which is just what we need! Unfortunately there’s no snow in the village just yet but we’re expecting some tonight. The top of the resort will be getting a nice dusting over the course of today. The photo featured here is of one of the most famous Onsens of the village. A traditional experience and a great way to prepare your muscles for the weekend, when our lifts will hopefully be open. Looking outside we can see some thick […]

Thursday is looking like the big day with plenty of snow dumping throughout the whole day. Some more again is predicted for the weekend. We are hoping to open our lifts on Friday. Everyone here is tapping their fingers in anticipation and the snow angels seem to be on our side. It looks like it’ll be a cold day on Thursday with a maximum of negative seven degrees, so stay warm!! Neobar opened last night, which was a huge success. Guests, staff, and locals all enjoyed themselves and got to know each other, and the DJ […]
Prayers may soon be answered in Nozawa Onsen with resort hoping to open Friday!
A pretty large system is looking like kicking in from Wednesday and more so Thursday with a big dump of snow expected in Nozawa. The resort staff are all meeting that day and the talk around the town is we could see Nozawa Onsen resort opening this Friday! The Gondola was doing test runs today too. Still in the hands of the gods but the beat of the dance is getting louder…
Counting down the days
Here at Nozawa Onsen, we’re all counting down the days until we start seeing the snow piling up. In fact, the forecast is telling us that there is only one more day! Snow should start falling on Tuesday night and won’t be stopping until Thursday night. There is some more predicted snow for the coming weekend which should all help to build a solid base for the season to come. If all goes as planned, we’ll be out riding in no time at all. Today, a number of our guests are going to see the snow monkeys, one of the highlights of a stay at Nozawa Onsen. The monkeys have their own natural hot springs to bathe in and warm […]
Last minute preparations… The snow is on its way!
As we’re reaching mid-December, the forecasts are starting to look more and more promising for the next few days. The team is working hard and final preparations are coming together for the season. Yesterday turned into a beautiful bluebird day, and fortunately our guests were able to catch some runs over at Ryuoo Park, a nearby resort. The perfect weather and the weekend meant for a large crowd over there, but everyone was stoked to be able to hit the slopes. It’s good to know the guests are still enjoying the company of other guests, the atmosphere, and the culture that Nozawa Onsen provides. Unfortunately the conditions at this time of year can be a bit hit and miss, however […]
Mt Dock Shop and Gondola Cafe a great start to your day in Nozawa
Another exciting addition to the landscape in Nozawa this season is the Mt Dock Complex right at the base of the Nagasaka Gondola. Housing a rental shop, Outlet Gear Store and the Gondola Café. A cool collaboration that is sure to be popular. Can sort some fat skis, a new pair of goggles and a hot cup of fresh coffee all before jumping on the Gondola and heading up the slopes. Funky and friendly vibe so drop in and see the guys for anything you need. Located right next to the Lift Ticket booth too so can get your lift passes sorted there too. Set to open in 1 week on the 19th of December just in time for the snow…
The waiting game may soon be over in Nozawa Onsen
Another cold clear start to the day here in Nozawa Onsen. Could almost get used to this, makes life pretty easy not having to shove all that snow to get out the front door! This time last year we had a massive 3 meters of snow in 4 days. Anyway looks like the snow will be here soon enough see the forecast attached. Temps are going up tomorrow morning with strong south winds then the westerly change will bring in some good snow for the top tomorrow night. Not sure that will be enough for the switch to get flicked on the lifts to roll on Saturday morning but would be nice if it does. If not from Wednesday the […]

Crystal Clear day in Nozawa Onsen A quick look at the web cam and it looks pretty nice up top this morning. Web Cams Nozawa Onsen Also looks like someone has taken some kind of first tracks down A Course up at Yamabiko! Might have to go up there today for some further research! Please see the photos to get a bit of an idea, conditions are not bad up there for an early season slide. It was pretty packed over the weekend being the only resort open in […]
Birds Eye View of Nozawa Onsen
Looks like we have had another bit of a dusting up top in Nozawa overnight with the trees up top a nice white haze this morning. For anyone wanting a birds eye view of the current conditions in Nozawa it does not get much better than this footage taken yesterday from above! Seiji san arigatou ne. As you can see lots of white up there so although there is not enough for the powers to be to open the lifts we hopefully have a bit of a base to get us started once we get another good dump. The guys that went to Ryuoo Park for a ski yesterday had a ball, just the one beginner run open but […]
Third time lucky in Nozawa
There is a saying in town that if it snows well 3 times up the top of the mountain then it will snow and settle in the Village. So hopefully the next dump will be a keeper. Still some light snow on the ground in town but don’t think it will last. Had a few families from Queensland arrive and it was snowing pretty heavy when they got in. For some of the kids it was the first time they have seen snow so were wrapped to throw a few snowballs and have a play.Up top things are looking nice and white with pretty cold temps up top the snow we had has held well. But still not enough for […]
