The Shin-Etsu Trail – The perfect adventure holiday combined with a unique cultural experience!
At 80km long, the Shin-Etsu Trail is a multi-day hiking trail that snakes along the ridge of the Sekida Mountain at an average elevation of around 1000 meters. There are 16 passes over this historic trail that have been used for centuries by traders and nowadays it attracts hikers keen to enjoy the peaceful, uncrowded route. The Shin-etsu Trail is divided into six sections, so it’s possible to hike just one section, a few sections or the full track which takes about 6 days to complete. Spring and autumn are especially good times to visit the trail. In spring, the last traces of snow can be seen among new greenery and flowers bursting into bloom. In the fall, hikers can enjoy the brilliant colours of autumn leaves.
The Trail opens some of the sections from early as Mid-May, with the remainder of the trail open from end of June to the end of October.
