Ski Improvement Nozawa Japan
Ski Improvement Nozawa Japan Beautiful Bluebird day ahead for Nozawa Yesterday or today could be your best day of the season so far depending what you prefer. The all day dumping of fresh snow yesterday or clear skies and sunshine on the cards today. Most people I saw coming down the mountain were pretty happy with yesterdays conditions as the snow just kept falling all day. We ended up with a massive 50cm from that little Siberian storm and the base has now been pushed up over the 150cm mark. There were fresh tracks from the start yesterday on piste up at Yamabiko with the snow that had fallen since they groomed the slopes, the snow got heavier filling in […]
Nozawa Onsen Fire Festival
Nozawa Onsen Fire Festival ” Himatsuri” 2020 Lots of amazing images coming out of the last nights ceremony in Nozawa. It was a spectacular night and the pantomime played out perfectly with all running smoothly, no major injuries and blessed by the gods with just the right amount of snow to top it off. Thanks to everyone that visited and for respecting the locals and this age old tradition. Arigatou Gozaimashhita. Enjoy some of the highlights and we hope to see you next year. It is a busy week though so also consider coming other times. The ski season generally runs from mid December to mid April or a bit longer. Nozawa Fire Festival Tonight
Tonights the night in Nozawa – The Annual Dosojin Himatusri Fire Festival! Some of the young men in the Village have been waiting their whole lives for tonight. Seeing their brothers, cousins and friends lay their bodies on the line in the name of honour and tradition. Now it is their turn to sacrifice and celebrate along with the whole village for the amazing Fire Festival. During this festival, the 25 Year old and 42 Year old men from the village play a very important role. A traditional belief in Japan dictates that, for men, these years are unlucky ages. These men together with up to 100 other experienced villagers have been busy constructing the Shaden (shrine) from beech wood […]
Helping out Australia
Helping out Australia Lending a hand to all our friends in Australia Since overseas skiers first started to visit us in Nozawa around 15 years ago we have had guests from almost every corner of the planet. We are very grateful to everyone that has visited and stayed with us in Nozawa. Australians have been some of the loveliest people to grace the village year after year. We also have a strong tie to this amazing country. Daily we are seeing guests arriving from Australia so thankful to be out of the heat and more so out of the fire line there. Many parts of the beautiful land are currently in flames, experiencing some of the worst bush fires the […]
Rugby World Cup Final
Today is the day! South Africa vs England in the Ruby World Cup final. England previously has won the Rugby World Cup in 2003 while South Africa has won twice in 1995 and 2007. England defeated New Zealand for their place in the final while South Africa took out Wales. It’s set to be an explosive match with both teams playing aggressively throughout the whole tournament. In Australia, kickoff will commence at 8pm (AEST). Who do YOU think will win? This is the first time a country in Asia has hosted the Rugby World Cup and not the last time Japan will host an international sporting event. Next summer Japan hosts the 2020 Olympics. Due to our history […]

Nozawa Onsen Autumn Lantern Festival 2019
Nozawa Onsen Autumn Lantern Festival 2019 Each year, on the 8th and 9th of September, the village comes alive for the Nozawa Onsen Autumn Lantern Festival. It’s a great insight into Japanese tradition and hospitality. However, even if you can’t make those dates, all is not lost. Those who have visited Nozawa will remember that each little area surrounding an onsen is its own little community. Many of these communities (Akiha, surrounding Kaiya Nozawa and Nakao, the area around Villa Nozawa, as examples) host their own mini-festivals, either side of the main event. It makes for a particularly vibrant period. Visitors will hear local participants practicing drums and rehearsing dances in the days leading up to each festival. As mentioned, […]
