The Shinetsu Trail – Scenic 110km Hiking Route
Stretching approximately 110 km along the border of Nagano and Niigata prefectures, the Shinetsu Trail is a multi-day hiking route that follows the ridge of Sekida Mountain at an average elevation of around 1,000 meters. This historic trail features 16 mountain passes that have been used for centuries by traders, and today it attracts hikers seeking a peaceful, uncrowded experience immersed in nature.
The trail is divided into six sections, giving hikers the flexibility to explore just one section, several parts, or the entire route—which typically takes about six days to complete.
Spring and autumn are especially beautiful times to hike the Shinetsu Trail. In spring, the landscape bursts with fresh greenery, blooming wildflowers, and the last patches of lingering snow. In autumn, the trail is ablaze with brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold as the leaves change color, offering spectacular vistas.
Sections of the trail begin to open as early as mid-May, with the full route generally accessible from late June through the end of October, depending on weather conditions.
Starts: 30th September or 14th October (Minimum of 2people to run). *Please check the availability for other dates.
