Light snow has been falling over Nozawa since the early hours of the morning. It’s looking like it could be a beautiful day here. Judging from the webcams, it looks as though the clouds are hovering just below 1400m, and above that at Yamabiko the skies are clear. The best snow can probably be found at Uenotaira and lower down. The usual weekend visitors should all be arriving this morning, so it’l be slightly busier than usual. If bigger crowds aren’t your thing then give night skiing a go. […]

Blue skies were out yesterday over Nozawa. Temperatures were fairly cool though the sun and lack of wind made it a beautiful day. There were some nice and fast runs to be had on the mountain, one of our favourites being Paradise. The snowpack seemed to be best around there though Yamabiko was great earlier in the morning. Firstly, we’d like to say a huge congratulations to Mia and Jeremy on their marriage which took place yesterday on our mountain! They certainly picked the right day for it. Light snow has been coming down overnight up the top of Nozawa. What begun as light rain in the late afternoon yesterday has now turned to beautiful snowflakes thanks to a sudden drop in the temperature. We’ve just started seeing light sleet turn into fluffy snowflakes down in the village. After quite a few spring days with temperatures rising well above zero, we’re more than excited to see winter make its return. Spring has paid an early visit to Nozawa, with warm temperatures and sunshine for the past few days. Tomorrow night we should see temperatures dropping back below zero. Move over spring, winter’s coming back. Our pistes have been feeling fairly soft thanks to the sun and warm temperatures, though things should be rapidly improving. With heavy snow expected for most of Wednesday, it’s looking like things will be back to normal in no time. With the sun shining brightly and the warm temperatures, the good weather attracted a lot of local Japanese folk up to the mountain. Things were getting quite busy in sections yesterday, though crowds seemed to dissipate in the afternoon. The morning started off nicely, though the snowpack soon softened under the beaming sun. It was a beautiful spring day, though we’re looking forward to winter conditions being back from Wednesday onwards! Yesterday’s Tomyo festival was a success. Tomyo Winter Night Festival in Nozawa tonight

Given the warmer temperatures and sun, the snowpack has held particularly well. We’ve lost some base since the last huge dump, though there are still some good runs to be had, particularly higher up. Lower down on the mountain things were getting a bit slushy but hopefully some cooler temps during the night have firmed the pistes up.
