Domestic Travel Japan from Nozawa
Planes instead of Trains in Japan
Hard to imagine really in a country that is so famous for its highspeed trains that you would even consider getting on a plane. It is true say to fly form Tokyo to Osaka it is probably quicker to take the train by the time you get out to the airport board the flight and then do the same at the other end. However Japan is a long Island nation and it is streches just over 3000km from North to South so it can save time to jump on a plane escpecially if travelling to one of the outer islands.
Plane travel in Japan also used to be very expensive but like in most countries low cost carriers have totally changed the landscape and now you can get some ridiculously cheap fares. We flew from Tokyo to Okinawa return last spring for about 15,000 Yen, makes for a graet tropical escape after a cold snowy winter season.
Tropical Island Escape to Okinawa
If you are looking at coming to Nozwa for spring skiing in late March or April then it can be a nice add on to follow it with some snorkelling down south on an island like Zamami or Ishigaki both beautiful tropical islands. Think Hawaii and Fiji but less crowded and cheaper. Check out this little story we did at the time

Some great deals on ski holidays in Spring too with lift passes and accommodation both nicely discounted
Cheap flights may also be handy during the ski season if you want to combine your trip to Nozawa with a visit to another great resort in the North in say Tohoku, Aomori or up in Hokkaido. You can get up there by train but plane may be faster and actually cheaper if can land a deal.

Don’t be at all concerned though if you only visit us in Nozawa Onsen. I travelled around Japan for many years and once found Nozawa rarely left. It had everything I needed and had been looking for in Japan in the one place. Mountains, Amazing Skiing, Delicious Food, Tradition and Culture and some of the friendliest people I had ever met.
