The good days keep rolling on here in Nozawa Onsen. Snow from the dump over the last few days is still in excellent quality thanks to persisting cold temperatures, and if you know where to look there are fresh tracks on offer. Should be another good days riding.
It’s partly cloudy at the moment, but we expect clouds and snow showers to return by the afternoon. High crowd levels this long weekend are causing some lift lines.
Yesterday was an epic day, hardly a frown on the hill. Deep fresh powder was on offer through the trees. The snow was so deep that some of the classic tree runs around Yamabiko were not steep enough to maintain forward momentum. That icy base layer which has been hanging around is now less of a concern, gradually getting buried.
The forecast is still looking good. As usual the snow expected tonight has been pushed back a little. We now expect the heaviest period of snowfalls to occur on Monday morning and last all day. Following that light snow showers should continue till Wednesday when we expect clear skies to return. All in all a good weeks snowfall is predicted.
Loving your blog, read it every day. We leave for Japan in three days, will be in Nozawa in a couple of weeks time, will be our first time ski-ing, the place looks amazing.
